The importance of diversifying economic growth resources was touched upon in the Motion for Royal Speech by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi yesterday expresed the highest appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, following His Majesty’s titah at the ceremonial opening of the First Meeting of the 22nd Legislative Council (LegCo) session.
His Majesty’s presence and titah, is a clear, comprehensive and forward-looking guide for the nation in addressing current challenges while ensuring inclusiveness, sustainable and resilient development in Brunei Darussalam, the minister said.
He said the titah reflects His Majesty’s deep concern for the welfare of the people and the continued prosperity of the country, while reinforcing national development efforts in line with the aspirations of Brunei Vision 2035.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi highlighted three key messages from the titah where firstly, he stressed that the LegCo serves as a strategic platform for meaningful discussions on national issues affecting the people, encouraging constructive dialogue and consultation among council members, government ministries and agencies, as well as engagement with the public, businesses, non-governmental organisations and youth.
Secondly, he noted His Majesty’s emphasis on addressing global challenges such as geopolitical developments, climate change, commodity price fluctuations and unexpected global crisis.
The minister said the country must pursue more strategic and proactive measures to strengthen economic diversification, explore new investment opportunities and enhance the role of the private sector and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Thirdly, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi highlighted His Majesty’s emphasis on people-centred development, including the need to provide quality and safe infrastructure and public facilities. He also noted His Majesty’s firm stance on strengthening good governance, integrity and efforts to combat corruption and abuse of power.
The minister said the titah serves as an important reminder for all stakeholders to strengthen efficiency, promote creativity and enhance cooperation across sectors in implementing national policies and development initiatives. He expressed confidence that the LegCo session w0uld continue to serve as a meaningful platform for constructive discussions and the exchange of ideas to further advance the nation’s development and the well-being of its people.
