Members of the Legislative Council (LegCo) led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman received a courtesy call from two United States (US) Congress officials under the Mutual Education and Cultural Exchange Act (MECEA) Programme yesterday.
The courtesy call was part of a visit to Brunei Darussalam under MECEA from August 13-16, aimed at strengthening understanding of the country’s system and governance, as well as expanding ties and cooperation.
LegCo members Yang Berhormat Dr Haji Mahali bin Haji Momin and Yang Berhormat Mohamad Ali bin Tanjong were also present.
Both parties exchanged views on the structure and role of the LegCo, including the selection process for district representatives and members’ involvement in domestic and international meetings, in addition to strengthening bilateral relations.
They also touched on Brunei Vision 2035, efforts to develop sustainable industries and measures to strengthen workforce capabilities through various initiatives and training programmes.
Opportunities for cooperation in training and knowledge exchange were also discussed, including regional and global issues such as climate change, the role of women, youth and technology.
The delegation visited the Legislative Council Chamber, where they were briefed on the history of the council and viewed the facilities.
