The Ministry of Education (MoE) continues to prioritise the safety and preservation of school buildings in the water village to ensure their long-term viability. This was emphasised by Minister of Education Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh in the Legislative Council (LegCo) yesterday, in response to a question raised by LegCo Yang Berhormat Amran bin Haji Maidin.
Currently, five primary schools remain operational in the water village: Sungai Siamas, Saba Darat, Bendahara Lama, Haji Tarif and Tanjung Kindana.
However, Pehin Dato Jamil Primary School was vacated on February, 28, 2025 due to unsafe infrastructure.
To maintain the remaining schools, MoE has implemented continuous maintenance measures, including repairs to wooden and concrete structures, pest control, and collaboration with the Public Works Department (JKR) for specialised technical assessments.
Regarding computer facilities, the minister revealed that 6,000 new laptops replaced outdated computers in school labs in 2024 to support digital learning.
Plans are in place to further increase the number of computers in schools based on current needs and student growth.
MoE will continue to monitor information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure to align with the national digital education agenda.
