Minister of Home Affairs Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haj Abdul Rahman noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening public safety and enhancing social well-being through close collaboration between the government and stakeholders, including the private sector. non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and the local community.
He said this in a ministerial statement titled “Synergy: Government and Community as Pillars of Public Safety and Social Well-Being in Brunei Darussalam” during the First Meeting of the 22d Session of the Legislative Council yesterday.
The minister also highlighted that such cooperation remains central in ensuring every policy and programmes implemented is truly effective, inclusive, impactful, and able to directly benefit the community. The ministry emphasised that its efforts go beyond aspirations, forming a core component of its strategic framework that guides the planning, coordination, and implementation of policies and programmes under its jurisdiction.
Public safety and social well-being, the minister noted, can be effectively strengthened through shared responsibility, trust, active participation, and sustained cooperation between authorities and the public.
To support this approach, the ministry has rolled out various initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency across its departments.
These, he added, include the digitalisation of work processes, enhancing preparedness and response capabilities for emergencies and disasters, upgrading public facilities, and strengthening community support systems at district and municipal levels.
The ministry is also focusing on empowering grassroots leadership by encouraging greater participation from the younger generation in roles such as mukim penghulus and village heads, where these leaders serve as a crucial link between the government and the people, playing a key role in safeguarding community well-being and harmony.
To ensure a more structured and comprehensive impact, the ministry has introduced seven key priority areas aligned with its responsibilities, where these priority areas are designed not only to address current societal needs but also to support national efforts in strengthening security, promoting community development, and enhancing institutional re-silence.
The initiatives are implemented through a whole-of-nation approach, involving collaboration with government agencies, the private sector, NGOs, and local communities to ensure policies and programmes are inclusive, effective, and beneficial to the public.
The minister added that several key initiatives under these priority areas will continue to be rolled out to further reinforce public safety and social well-being across the country.
