The Legislative Council (LegCo) of Brunei Darussalam strengthened inter-parliamentary ties through a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland.

The delegation was led by Speaker of the LegCo Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, accompanied by other LegCo members.

Among the key engagements was a meeting with Secretary General of the IPU Martin Chungong, who welcomed the formal admission of the LegCo as the 183rd member of the IPU.

Both sides discussed ways to strengthen the LegCo’s participation in IPU activities, including meetings, programmes, and initiatives aimed at enhancing parliamentary institutional development. The meeting also reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting cooperation and advancing the objectives of the IPU at the global level.

The LegCo members also met with the British Group Inter-Parliamentary Union delegation, comprising Members of Parliament from the United Kingdom’s House of Commons and House of Lords. The discussions focused on exchanging views and deepening understanding of the legislative systems and parliamentary practices of both nations.

The meeting provided a platform to enhance mutual understanding, foster dialogue, and strengthen relations based on trust and respect, while reaffirming the commitment to expanding constructive and enduring inter-parliamentary cooperation.
