26.03.26 Digital technology strengthens dakwah efforts

The Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) plans to expand dakwah activities adapting to social changes and technological advancements by installing internet access in mosques and prayer halls, developing user-friendly websites, and providing creative software. At the same time, young volunteers are also involved to assist the public in using the religious e-service portal.

Among the main plans to strengthen digital infrastructure for dakwah was mentioned by Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Haji Awang Othman yesterday on the ninth day of the First Meeting of the 22nd Session of the Legislative Council.

“The MoRA through the Information Technology Division (BTM), the Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI), the Department of Islamic Studies (JPI), Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPUSB), and the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB), in collaboration with key stakeholders in the use of digital technology such as the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University (UNISSA) and local non-governmental organisational and communities, have developed various dakwah initiatives tailored to social changes and technological advancements in line with the interests of the younger generation,” Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin shared.

“In this regard, one initiative by the Department of Mosques Affairs has been the distribution of Friday sermons in infographic form, available in both Malay and English.”

“For example, Instagram story views increased from 13,082 in 2024 to 144,454 in 2025, an increase of 11 times.”

The minister added, “Meanwhile, through broadcasting media, collaboration with Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB) has aired daily, weekly, and periodic programmes such as The Beauty of Islam, Permata Iman, Takzirah Rampai Pagi, and other spiritual programmes on TV, Radio broadcasts also include Intisari Khutbah Jumaat and Tadabbur Al-Quran. Similarly, through youth programmes such as ACE Camping, Munajat Khas and Faith and Soul Camp, as well as other sporting activities, it is evident how digital technology, broadcasting, youth programmes, and collaboration with relevant parties are strengthening the dakwah ecosystem and spiritual education.”

“Through strategic collaborations with educational and higher learning institutions, UNISSA conducted research on new converts (muallaf), KUPU SB developed the Tadabbur Al-Qur’an Programme and Nadi Da’ie and collaboration with ITQSHHB resulted in creative dakwah videos.
