Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Isa bin Pengiran Haji Aliuddin, in his motion of thanks on the second day of the first meeting of the 21st Legislative Council (LegCo) session yesterday, expressed his gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s decision to hold LegCo session twice a year.
He emphasised that His Majesty pays serious attention to continuous action and implementation across all sectors, particularly in accelerating economic growth and diversifying the economy towards achieving Brunei Vision 2035 goals.
With the amendment of the Code of Ethics for LegCo members, he noted that it would add value to the LegCo, aligning it with the standards of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) while maintaining Brunei’s distinct characteristics.
He highlighted His Majesty’s emphasis on the need for transformation to increase national productivity and revenue across sectors beyond downstream oil and gas. “This is a notion that requires serious and swift action. It is necessary for all parties, especially government agencies to continue exploring opportunities to further facilitate local businesses in these sectors, ensuring their rapid progress in driving economic diversification,” he said.
He also reaffirmed his commitment, saying, “I will remain focused on enhancing the strategies and directions of ministries and government departments in an integrated, swift and steady manner for the sake of economic growth and the well-being of the people.
Additionally, I will respond to His Majesty’s titah by putting forward suggestions and ideas that consider emerging global issues, including artificial intelligence technology revolution, which is now an undeniable necessity.”
