28.02.25 LegCo members affirm commitment to Brunei Vision 2035, inclusive development

Legislative Council (LegCo) members expressed support for the recent policy updatesand governance reforms announced by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on the second day of the first meeting of the 21st LegCo session yesterday.

During the afternoon session yesterday, members voiced their appreciation and gratitude through a motion of thanks, acknowledging the significant initiatives outlined by His Majesty. The motion emphasised His Majesty’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of the people, improving governance, and driving the country’s economic progress.

LegCo members Yang Berhormat Hajah Rosmawatty binti Haji Abdul Momin, Yang Berhormat Mohamad Ali bin Tanjong and Yang Berhormat Haji Daud bin Jihan expressed support for the government’s decision to update medical service fee policies, particularly the welfare provisions for stateless residents, which now ensure that medical benefits will be made available to them on par with citizens. The members commended this inclusive approach to healthcare.

LegCo members Yang Berhormat Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Othman and Yang Berhormat Mohammad bin Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann supported the move to hold LegCo sessions twice a year, which they believe will allow for more timely and efficient discussions on important national policies. They also expressed their endorsement of the government’s efforts to enhance procedural frameworks, which will ensure that members can fulfil their legislative duties more effectively.

The motion of thanks also recognised His Majesty’s emphasis on strengthening the professionalism and accountability of LegCo members through a review of the Code of Ethics. The members pledged to uphold the highest standards of integrity in their roles.

The motion also highlighted the progress made in Brunei’s economy, especially with the impressive gross domestic products growth recorded in recent years and the expansion of the petrochemical sector. The members noted the government’s continued focus on diversifying the economy and supporting local entrepreneurship. The LegCo members expressed support for the initiatives aimed at fostering growth in various sectors, including agriculture, logistics, education and tourism.

They also reiterated their commitment to contributing to Brunei’s goal of achieving Brunei Vision 2035.
