The Speaker of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, received courtesy calls from two foreign heads of diplomatic missions to Brunei Darussalam on Wednesday.
The courtesy calls were held separately at the LegCo Building.
British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Alexandra McKenzie, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Brunei Darussalam Mohammad Taghi Rajabi, were received by the Speaker.
During the meeting with the British High Commissioner, both sides discussed the longstanding and close bilateral ties between Brunei Darussalam and the United Kingdom. Discussions also touched on ongoing cooperation in areas such as education, defence, and exchange visits, as well as strong people-to-people relations.
They also exchanged views on the importance of digital communication technologies in strengthening connections between governments and citizens, and explored potential collaboration between the parliaments of both countries.
In a separate meeting with the Iranian Ambassador, both parties exchanged views on current global issues of mutual concern and shared interest. They expressed hope that continued efforts through negotiation and dialogue would contribute to long-term peace and stability.
The meeting also discussed potential plans to explore parliamentary cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
