30.05.25 LegCo welcomes UK AFPS delegation

​The Legislative Council (LegCo) yesterday received a delegation from the United Kingdom Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme (UK AFPS), comprising seven UK Members of Parliament and officers from the British Armed Forces.

The delegation was also accompanied by officials from the British High Commission in Brunei Darussalam.

LegCo member Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Haji Md Yusof, along with several LegCo members, welcomed the delegation.

Clerk to the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council and Clerk to the Legislative Council Dr Hajah Huraini binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hurairah was also present.

The visit began with a briefing session at the Chamber of the LegCo, which introduced the background and history of the LegCo building.

The presentation highlighted the Malay Islamic Monarchy identity reflected in the architecture as well as the uniqueness of the country’s legislative institution.

Details on the functions and structure of the LegCo as the country’s main legislative body were also shared.

It included insights into the workings of the council’s meetings and the roles of members in policy-making and discussing national development issues.

The delegation and hosts continued their engagement over a working lunch, providing a platform to exchange views and share information about their respective parliaments.

The visit served to strengthen ties, foster experience sharing and enhance mutual understanding between the legislative institutions of both countries.
