24.07.25 LegCo Speaker receives courtesy visits

The Speaker of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, received two separate courtesy visits at the Legislative Council Building on Thursday.

The first visit was from Vice President and Chair of Shell Companies in Brunei Darussalam Henry Bristol. During the meeting, both sides discussed the long-standing strategic relationship between Shell and Brunei, as well as ongoing collaboration to support the nation’s economic development—particularly in the energy sector.

Discussions also touched on the importance of creating employment opportunities for youth, the adoption of modern technologies including artificial intelligence (AI), and Brunei’s efforts to diversify its economy in line with national development goals and Brunei Vision 2035.

The second visit was from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cambodia to Brunei Darussalam Chey Ratha. The meeting focused on the strong bilateral ties between Brunei and Cambodia, including potential areas of cooperation between the legislative bodies of both countries.

Both parties exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, and explored opportunities for greater connectivity, people-to-people relations, ecotourism, and the halal trade sector.

Also present during both courtesy visits was Clerk to the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council, and Clerk to the Legislative Council Datin Paduka Dr Dayang Hajah Huraini binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hurairah.
