05.08.25 Speaker of the LegCo urges to uphold national values in deliberations

Speaker of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib Called on LegCo members to ensure debates to be conducted in a mature, orderly and prudent atmosphere by adhering to the principles of Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) during the Second Meeting of 21st LegCo Session yesterday.

He also urged members to uphold the strength of the LegCo in jointly carrying out the trust for the good of the people and the future of the country.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman said, “This means the meeting should be developed into a platform for exchanging ideas, views and solutions to improve policies and enhance the well-being of the people. It should also serve as a bridge between the government and the people.

“LegCo members must together carry out collective responsibility to think about the country’s development.”

He added that the standing orders must always be respected and fully complied when discussing and debating issues and to ensure the integrity of the LegCo institution is always preserved. “This is important not only to strengthen the deliberative process but it is also proof that the LegCo can apply the standing orders in an orderly manner.”

He added, “The second meeting will also open the opportunity for questions to be raised from LegCo members to obtain more in-depth explanations and also provide an opportunity for the ex-officio members to share government initiatives, supporting the national development agenda.”
