08.08.25 Boosting productivity through sustainable ecotourism

Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin outlined key initiatives by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) to advance productivity, diversify the economy, and promote sustainable development in support of Brunei Vision 2035.

Youth inclusion is central to the ministry’s agenda, as well as collaboration with the private sector and research institutions which support effective implementation.

In line with national sustainability goals, MPRT promotes circular economy practices across sectors. These include sustainable agriculture, organic waste management, recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), fishery waste utilisation, smart technology adoption, forest conservation, and eco-tourism.

Active tourism promotions include participation in expos and networking sessions abroad, influencer marketing, familiarisation trips for foreign agents, and listing with global travel platforms.

The ministry also hosted the ‘Naturally Brunei – Pathways to Sustainable Growth’ forum in July, focusing on resilient tourism, and conducted a workshop on nature-based tourism product design. The ministry is confident of contributing to Brunei Vision 2035 through whole-of-government and whole-of-nation efforts, driving sustainable growth and job creation.
