28.11.25 LegCo delegation strengthens bilateral ties during China working visit

A delegation of Members of the Legislative Council (LegCo) concluded an official working visit to the People’s Republic of China, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and strengthening inter-parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries.

The delegation comprised LegCo members Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abd Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Yang Berhormat Chong Chin Yee, Yang Berhormat Dr Haji Mahali bin Haji Momin, and Yang Berhormat Mohamad Ali bin Tanjong. The visit, held from November 24 to 28, was undertaken at the invitation of the Chinese government.

According to the LegCo, the visit served to further reinforce the foundation of the China-Brunei Community with a Shared Future, particularly through strengthened legislative cooperation and parliamentary exchanges.

During their stay, the delegation held seperate meetings with representatives from the National People’s Congress of China (NPC) and the Tianjin Municipal People’s Congress. Discussions focused on expanding bilateral engagement between the legislative bodies of both nations, with further exploration of cooperation in technology, culture, and sustainable development.

The LegCo delegation also visited several key innovation and development sites, including the Xiaomi manufacturing facility, Longuan Power Bohai Chemical PV Power Station, Tianjin Port Smart Zero-Carbon Terminal, China-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City, and the iFLYTEK Smart Valley AI Industrial Demonstration Base. The visits showcased China’s advancement in technological innovation, renewable energy, smart port systems, sustainable urban planning, and artificial intelligence.

The Legislative Council described the visit as significant to ongoing efforts to deepen Brunei-China relations at the legislative level, while strengthening cooperation in key sectors such as soci0-economic development, youth development, and cultural diplomacy.
