Speaker of the Legislative Council Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib received a courtesy call from Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China and the President of Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament Peng Qinghua at the Legislative Council (LegCo) Building.
Both sides emphasised the long-established biletaral relations between Brunei Darussalam and China, as well as the various cooperative efforts in several key sectors, including the economy and port development.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on collaborative efforts in development that supports the aspirations of the China-Brunei Community with a Shared Future.
Both parties expressed readiness to enhance the good cooperative ties between the LegCo and the National People’s Congress of China, contributing to the continuity of mutually beneficial cooperation between Brunei and China.
The visit represents a continuation of efforts to strengthen cooperative relations between legislative institutions and contributes to the enhancement of the overall friendship and cooperation between Brunei and China.
Ambassador of China to Brunei Darussalam Xiao Jianguo and Vice Minister of the International Department, Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Ma Hui were present.
LegCo members Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abd Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim; Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman; Yang Berhormat Hajah Safiah binti Sheikh Haji Abdul Salam; Yang Berhormat Hajah Rosmawatty binti Haji Abdul Mumin; and Yang Berhormat Mohamad Ali bin Tanjong were also in attendance.
Clerk to the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council and Clerk to the Legislative Council Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Huraini binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Haji Hurairah was also present.
