06.02.26 Courtesy call focuses on education sector, women’s participation progress

The Legislative Council (LegCo) received a courtesy call on Thursday from members of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany, Marja-Liisa Völlers​ and Ellen Demuth, accompanied by officials from the Federal Foreign Office of Germany with the discussions covering developments in the education sector, particularly early childhood education and its contribution to national development, along with progress in women’s participation and advancement in the workforce.

Both sides also exchanged views on their legislative functions and roles, with the LegCo members also sharing insights into the appointment of Council members and the execution of their roles and responsibilities within their fields. Spouse of the Ambassador of Germany to Brunei Darussalam Dr Imke Börner was also present with the delegation.

LegCo members Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Yang Berhormat Hajah Safiah binti Sheikh Haji Abdul Salam, Yang Berhormat Hajah Rosmawatty binti Haji Abdul Mumin, and Clerk to the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council and Clerk to the Legislative Council Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Huraini binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hurairah represented the LegCo.

The courtesy call represents a two-day official visit to Brunei Darussalam by a delegation from Germany, led by Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Dr Johann David Wedaphul.
