18.03.26 Commercial electricity tariff revised to support growing energy system: Minister

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof shared that the electricity tariff for the commercial sector has been reviewed and that the current tariff for the commercial sector has been reviewed from “regressive” to “progressive”, to encourage prudent energy use and support the financing of the growing energy system. This is to ensure energy security, strengthen investor confidence and attract foreign direct investment (FDI) to the country.

He said this in his ministerial remarks during the sixth day of the First Meeting of the 22nd session of the Legislative Council (LegCo).

He added that this matter was also highlighted by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah in his statement on 2026/2027 Financial Year budget during the 22nd LegCo Meeting on March 14.

The minister also said that progressive electricity tariff for the commercial sector is proposed to be implemented in 2028.
