Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Chong Chin Yee shared Brunei Darussalam’s initiatives in strengthening youth skills and nurturing a digitally literate generation, guided by Brunei Vision 2035 and the National Youth Policy and Strategy 2020–2035.
Yang Berhormat Chong Chin Yee noted this during the plenary session attending the 3rd Consultative Meeting of Young Parliamentarians (YPA) held virtually on Tuesday. LegCo member Yang Berhormat Abdul Aziz bin Haji Hamdan also participated.
The meeting, themed ‘ASEAN Youth: Strengthening Solidarity and Empowering Future-Ready Leaders’, was organised by the House of Representatives of the Philippines and attended by AIPA member countries, including Timor-Leste.
The LegCo member also emphasised the importance of creating a safe and conducive digital environment, alongside raising awareness on the ethical use of technology.
The LegCo member highlighted the need to encourage youth participation and strengthen cross-border collaboration in preparation for future challenges.
The LegCo members also attended two dialogue sessions ‘Harnessing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Literacy for ASEAN Youth’ and ‘Empowering Parliaments to Strengthen Mental Health Governance’.
The sessions provided a platform for delegates to listen to presentations by representatives from organisations such as the ASEAN Foundation, the National Youth Commission, and the World Health Organization Philippines.
It served as a platform to strengthen regional solidarity, empower youth leadership, and align perspectives in policy-making towards achieving the ASEAN Vision 2045 and the sustainable development goals.
It proceeded with an exchange of views on the role of youth in the digital era and the need to strengthen mental health governance through parliamentary institutional support.
