Legislative Council members Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman and Yang Berhormat Hajah Safiah binti Sheikh Haji Abdul Salam, participated in the 9th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Advisory Council on Dangerous Drugs (AIPACODD) Meeting, featuring discussions on efforts to enhance consensus among ASEAN member states in addressing cross-border threats related to drug trafficking and associated crimes.
During the meeting, the delegation shared a report on the drug situation in Brunei Darussalam and the measures undertaken to address drug abuse.
The delegation also exchanged views and best practices on regional challenges presented by representatives from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), ASEAN Senior Officials on Drug Matters, as well as health agencies from the Philippines.
Hosted virtually by the House of Representatives of the Philippines, the 9th AIPACODD Meeting also considered a draft resolution titled ‘Strengthening ASEAN Parliamentary Cooperation to Respond to the Convergence of Drug Trafficking and Related Crimes’, which was agreed to be tabled at the upcoming 47th AIPA General Assembly.
