Speaker of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib on Tuesday received separate farewell calls from the Ambassador of Ireland and the Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines at the LegCo Building.
The Speaker first received the non-resident Ambassador of Ireland to Brunei Darussalam Sarah McGrath.
Discussions focused on bilateral relations between Brunei Darussalam and Ireland, particularly in the areas of education and economic cooperation. Both sides also expressed interest in maintaining close parliamentary collaboration between the Legislative Council and the Parliament of Ireland.
They also exchanged views on regional and international cooperation, including continued engagement through meetings and conferences organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The Speaker later received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to Brunei Darussalam Marian Jocelyn R. Tirol-Ignacio.
During the meeting, both sides reflected on the close ties between Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines and discussed plans to enhance dialogue and the exchange of best practices between the Legislative Council and the Congress of the Philippines.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Also present during both courtesy calls was Clerk to the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council and Clerk to the Legislative Council Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Huraini binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hurairah.
