Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Othman expressed his full support for the motion on coordinating efforts towards achieving Brunei Vision 2035, describing the appointment of three Coordinating Ministers as a significant and forward-looking initiative that will strengthen policy coordination, government administration, and national development.
Speaking during the LegCo meeting, he said the establishment of the Coordinating Ministers reflected the continued commitment of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to ensuring government agencies work in an integrated manner to realise national aspirations.
He noted that the appointments for National Security, Economic Policies, and Social and Human Capital Policies would enhance cross-ministerial collaboration, accelerate policy implementation, and improve public service delivery.
Emphasising that modern development challenges span interconnected sectors, he stressed that closer collaboration would reduce duplication, speed up decision-making, and optimise national resources.
He added that coordination must extend to the private sector, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), educational institutions, and local communities under a whole-of-nation approach.
Highlighting policy continuity and human capital development as cornerstones of Brunei Vision 2035, Yang Berhormat Haji Mohd Salleh proposed strengthening early education with a focus on critical thinking, digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and STEM subjects. He also advocated closer alignment between vocational training centres and industry to match labour market demands.
Addressing digital transformation, he stated that Brunei should leverage artificial intelligence (AI) as a catalyst for development while balancing its adoption with human capital growth, ethical considerations, and digital security.
He stressed that AI should complement human workers by enhancing productivity and creating higher-value jobs.
Concluding his speech, Yang Berhormat Haji Mohd Salleh underscored the importance of measuring progress using key performance indicators (KPIs) and the Brunei Vision 2035 Index, expressing confidence that stronger coordination will accelerate the achievement of Brunei Vision 2035
