The Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) is strengthening digital transformation, transport connectivity and logistics development as key enablers of Brunei Vision 2035, with 21 strategic projects under the National Development Plan (RKN) expected to enhance the country’s productivity, innovation and competitiveness.

During second day of the Second Meeting of the 22d Legislative Council Session, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Mohammed Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohammed Yunos expressed full support for the motion on strengthening coordination towards achieving Brunei Vision 2035.

The minister said Brunei already has a clear national direction through the Economic Blueprint, Social Blueprint and Man-power Blueprint, which provide the foundation for coordinated policy implementation under the Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Nation approaches.

In line with these national blueprints, MTIC has aligned its initiatives through the MTIC Strategic Plan 2030, Digital Brunei 2030 and the Road Safety Action Plan 2030, together with strategic plans of agencies under the ministry.

He said these frameworks are designed to strengthen national security, stimulate economic growth and improve the well-being of the people while ensuring the ministry’s programmes remain aligned with the country’s long-term aspirations.

A major focus is developing digital talent through reskilling and upskilling programmes to prepare Bruneians for future economic demands.

Among the initiatives are the TechInspire Apprenticeship Programme, TechXPLORE and Coding.BN, while the Maritime Cadetship Programme, launched in 2025, aims to produce internationally recognised Bruneian seafarers and maritime professionals to support the country’s maritime industry.

The minister also highlighted efforts to strengthen digital governance through the Cyber Security Order 2023 and Personal Data Protection Order 2025 to ensure the country’s digital transformation remains secure and effective. To support economic diversification, MTIC continues to strengthen the ICT and transport sectors by improving air and sea cargo movements through an integrated logistics ecosystem linking air, sea and land transportation.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam is enhancing port efficiency through digitalisation, including the Maritime Single Window system, while upgrading infrastructure at Muara Port to increase cargo capacity, transshipment activities and maritime business opportunities.

The Digital Brunei Council is also playing a key role in expanding the digital economy by encouraging digital adoption across government services, industries and society.

On improving quality of life, the minister said the ministry remains committed to providing a safe, efficient and reliable transport system while enhancing digital public services that are more accessible, responsive and user-centric.

Road safety remains a priority through the Road Safety Action Plan 2030 and public awareness campaigns such as “Share the Road”, alongside legislative improvements to enhance road safety nationwide.

Looking ahead, the ministry will focus on three implementation priorities: strengthening transport and cybersecurity, enhancing public service delivery through digitalisation, and accelerating infrastructure development under the National Development Plan.

This includes modernising government systems, upgrading facilities at Brunei International Airport and developing smarter public transport systems to improve efficiency and user experience.

The minister stressed that digital transformation is no longer an option but a key catalyst for achieving Brunei Vision 2035.However, he noted that success re- quires close collaboration between the public and private sectors, academic institutions and the wider community through a Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Nation approach.

He added that with coordinated leadership under the newly appointed Coordinating Ministers and sustained commitment from all stakeholders, Brunei would be able to accelerate the achievement of Brunei Vision 2035 while strengthening the nation’s competitiveness and delivering tangible benefits to its people.
