In celebration of International Day of
Forests on March 23, Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd (Brunei LNG) planted 200
saplings on Bukit Perompong, Kampong Sungai Liang, conducted as part of a
tree planting campaign yesterday.
Brunei LNG Managing Director and CEO Hajah
Farida binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib participated in the
tree-planting, accompanied by some 70 members from Brunei LNG’s
leadership team and employees.
Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang
Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari, who is also Green Brunei
co-founder and Community Engagement Director was also present.
Green Brunei volunteers, as well as officers and staff from the Forestry Department
also attended.
Hajah Farida expressed her gratitude for
the support in delivering Brunei LNG’s commitment to ensure that future
generations can experience a world where climate change is not as
prevalent and hoped that environmental efforts can contribute to
reversing the footprints that have been left in the past century.
She also shared her appreciation to Green
Brunei for its partnership with Brunei LNG and collaboration with the
Brunei Forestry Centre, Forestry Department at the Ministry of Primary
Resources and Tourism, for their support.
Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa said, “The
partnership is the first of many planned with Brunei LNG and I hope we
can support Brunei LNG in their goal to plant 1,000 trees in 2022 as
well as other projects.”
The event represented one of the company’s
environmental activities for the year to support the Brunei Government’s
commitment towards a low carbon and climate resilient nation via the
Brunei Darussalam National Climate Change Policy (BNCCP).
In addition, the campaign was also
conducted as part of the company’s BLNGolden Hearts Project Kindness:
Volunteer, a volunteer programme aimed to create opportunities, inspire
and engage employees to join kindness activities and make a difference
throughout the year.
