Brunei Darussalam’s commitment and
dedication to promoting innovation and start-up companies as well as
advancing digital transformation were highlighted by Legislative Council
(LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Chong Chin Yee at the 9th Global
Conference of Young Parliamentarians hosted by the National Assembly of
Vietnam and Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Hanoi, Vietnam.
She said the Sultanate has been promoting
technology such as big data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI) and
Internet of Things (IoT) through the establishment of the Council of
Research and Advancement of Technology and Science (CREATES) in 2021.
Brunei has also set up the Brunei
Innovation Lab aimed at nurturing innovation and digital ecosystem as
well as technology entrepreneurs towards a sustainable economy.
LegCo member Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji
Isa bin Pengiran Haji Aliuddin, meanwhile, highlighted that the
Sultanate focuses on empowering youth as agents of change in achieving
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through various means, such as
organising dialogue sessions to promote the role of youth in reaching
these goals.
He noted that Brunei has seven ethnic
groups playing significant roles in promoting cultural diversity and
unity while contributing to sustainable development.
Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Isa believes
it is crucial that those involved in shaping the laws contribute their
unique perspectives and energies.
The two-day conference, which ends today,
features discussions on the growing importance of technology and
innovation that are becoming more challenging.
Over 310 parliamentarians representing 75
countries as well as regional and international organisations attended
the conference.
