The participation of Legislative Council
(LegCo) members in delivering ideas and suggestions underscored a
collective effort to support His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah
Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien
Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei
Darussalam’s vision of a developed country, said Special Advisor to His
Majesty and Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Yang Berhormat Pehin
Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Di-Raja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa
bin Pehin Datu Perdana Manteri Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Ibrahim at
the 20th session of the LegCo meeting yesterday.
In his adjournment speech, he said the
suggestions from LegCo members represented the Sultanate’s citizens and
will act as references, allowing the government to formulate and
implement polices, strategies and initiatives that contribute to
socio-economic development.
He also noted that it is crucial for the
needs and expectations of stakeholders and citizens to be met with hopes
to heighten public confidence in the government’s efforts.
He said the new national budget will focus
on efforts to enhance the quality of life among the people through
infrastructural development, economic growth and diversification with
the aim of reducing dependency on oil and gas, while having an education
system capable of producing a skilled workforce.
