10.10.25 Brunei, Singapore strengthen parliamentary ties

Speaker of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib received a courtesy call from Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore Seah Kian Peng at the Legislative Council Building yesterday.

Accompanying the Singaporean Speaker were members of the Singapore Parliament Dr Wan Rizal, Dennis Tan, Lee Hui Ying, and Hazlina Abdul Halim, as well as High Commissioner of Singapore to Brunei Darussalam Laurence Bay.

Clerk to the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council and Clerk to the Legislative Council Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Huraini binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hurairah were also in attendance.

LegCo members Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Yusof, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Yang Berhormat Chong Chin Yee, Yang Berhormat Hajah Rosmawatty binti Haji Abdul Mumin and Yang Berhormat Zainol bin Haji Mohamed were also present. During the courtesy call, both sides held a cordial discussion focused on efforts to further strengthen relations between the LegCo of Brunei Darussalam and the Parliament of Singapore, particularly in fostering closer ties of friendship and cooperation. Both parties also exchanged views and experiences on the respective functions and roles of their parliamentary institutions, and shared approaches in parliamentary management, capacity development, and opportunities for joint learning through the exchange of best practices.

The meeting underscored the importance of inter-parliamentary relations in supporting the close friendship between Brunei and Singapore, while also enhancing regional and international cooperation in various fields of development.

The delegation also visited the LegCo Chamber, reflecting the shared commitment to further strengthen ties between the legislative institutions of both countries, contributing to the overall enhancement of friendship and cooperation between Brunei and Singapore.
