The role of young leaders as a channel for the younger generation to voice their views and contribute to national and regional development was among the topics discussed during a courtesy call on Speaker of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib yesterday.
Discussions with the visiting delegation of Young Parliamentarians of AIPA (YPA-AIPA) from the Parliament of Malaysia also covered education, unemployment and gaps in employment opportunities.
Member of Parliament of Malaysia and Chairman of the Young Parliamentarians of AIPA (YPA) Committee Dato’ Indera Mohd Shahar bin Abdullah led the delegation.
It also included Members of Parliament of Malaysia Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen and Senator Roderick.
Officers from the Secretariat of the Parliament of Malaysia and Members of the LegCo Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Isa bin Pengiran Haji Aliuddin, Yang Berhormat Chong Chin Yee and Yang Berhormat Abdul Aziz bin Haji Hamdan were also present at the meeting at the LegCo Building.
Malaysia, as the ASEAN Chair this year, is offering various programmes and courses, including in technology and artificial intelligence, to improve skills in the ASEAN region.
Both parties expressed commitment to strengthen cooperation and build a more inclusive future for future generations.
The visit is part of an initiative by the YPA Committee of the Malaysian Parliament to conduct a series of working visits to AIPA member countries ahead of the 46th AIPA General Assembly, which the Malaysian Parliament will chair in September. It aims to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy, foster youth leadership and enhance ties between young parliamentarians in the region through dialogue on issues of mutual interest.
