News Image23.08.21 His Majesty officiates the opening of the 42nd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) via video conference​His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, today officiated the opening of the 42nd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) hosted by the Legislative Council of Brunei Darussalam. The opening was held virtually via video conference.

LegCo Speaker Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib chaired the conference as the 42nd AIPA President.

POST-EVENT PRESS RELEASE OUTCOMES OF THE 42ND AIPA GENERAL ASSEMBLYhe 42nd AIPA General Assembly was hosted by the Legislative Council of Brunei Darussalam from 23 to 25 August 2021. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the General Assembly was once again held virtually. The Host Parliament chose "Forging Parliamentary Cooperation in Digital Inclusion towards ASEAN Community 2025" as the official theme of the 42nd AIPA General Assembly. Speakers/Presidents of 9 AIPA Member Parliaments, Heads of 10 Observer Parliaments, Secretaries General of ASEAN and IPU, President of APPF, AIPA partners and guests of the host parliament attended the event.
News ImageCONCEPT NOTE ON THEME “FORGING PARLIAMENTARY COOPERATION IN DIGITAL INCLUSION TOWARDS ASEAN COMMUNITY 2025”Digital inclusion is a cross cutting agenda for ASEAN as the region strives in its endeavours towards an ASEAN community and to expand ASEAN activities and opportunities across ASEAN Member States.  There are challenges which have been identified such as: connectivity gaps in internet access and affordability; and network interoperability in rural and underserved areas.  To encourage free flow of cross border data for business objectives, while respecting domestic laws and regulations that promote conducive digitally economic environments.  Eco-systems must also be in place to foster the growth of E-Market and E-Commerce platforms and are essential to uphold fair and standardised Trade Facilitation Policies thus further enabling seamless digital payments in these processes.

News Image22.06.21 Inter-Regional EP-AIPA DialogueThe Legislative Council attended the Inter-Regional Dialogue between the European Parliament and ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly hosted by the European Parliament (EP) on Tuesday, 22nd June 2021.  The dialogue session was attended by delegations from the Parliaments of ASEAN countries and delegations from the Parliaments of European countries.  The Legislative Council was represented by Honourable Dayang Nik Hafimi binti Abdul Haadii and Honourable Awang Iswandy bin Ahmad, Members of the Legislative Council. Also present during the dialogue, Honourable Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Judin bin Haji Asar, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers' Council & Clerk to Councils.
