Water may seem easily attainable. When we turn on the tap, water keeps flowing. However, the fact is that the clean water we use every day undergoes a long process and requires the efforts of various parties. The water needs to be collected, then filtered and cleaned before being supplied to homes. All this requires expertise, energy, and expenditure, said Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Haji Daud bin Jihan during a Water Saving Programme at Dato Marsal Primary School.
He added, “What you are learning today will not only be useful for yourselves but can also be shared with family members or friends. If one household starts to conserve water, a village can also change to conserve water. And if all villages can do it, the whole country can too. We can help Brunei Darussalam to maintain a sufficient and clean water supply for future generations.”
The Water Saving Programme was organised by the Department of Water Services at the Ministry of Development, in collaboration with the Legislative Council. The initiative aimed to inculcate the importance of conserving the nation’s water resources and raise awareness among the younger generation on the significance of using water wisely.
The programme saw the participation of 198 Years 3 to 5 students, alongside the school’s headmistress and teachers.
The programme’s content included a talk by an officer from the Department of Water Services, along with interactive activities such as quizzes and games. The initiative provided students with an opportunity to better understand their role in supporting efforts to conserve the nation’s water resources through responsible and ethical practices.
LegCo member Yang Berhormat Mohammad bin Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann was also present at the event.
