Thirty women comprising Legislative Council (LegCo) members, representatives from government bodies, women’s non-governmental organisations and civil society organisations across the Sultanate attended the Uniting Women’s Voices roundtable at the Brunei History Centre (PSB) recently.
LegCo member Yang Berhormat Hajah Safiah binti Sheikh Haji Abdul Salam said, “Each table has been carefully composed to reflect a range of experiences and expertise. We hope this creates space not only for deep discussion within each group but also for collaboration across all three dimensions.”
She also shared her hopes that “the insights and ideas shared during the discussions serve as a foundation for more informed, inclusive and responsive policymaking – one that is grounded in a shared commitment to meaningful dialogue, stronger partnerships and real progress in advancing women’s leadership and well-being across Brunei Darussalam”.
The gathering served as a platform to ensure that community-driven insights on national policy development and contribute to sustained progress in women’s participation, leadership and well-being.
Participants engaged in small-group discussions, each focused on one of three key themes: living with integrity and security, accessing opportunities for growth and contributing and leading in community life.
The event concluded with a guided tour of the Constitutional Gallery at PSB, within the historic Lapau Lama – the original site of LegCo meetings dating back to the 1950s.
The visit served as a symbolic reflection on Brunei’s governance and the vital role of women in shaping its future.
The insights shared laid the groundwork for more inclusive, responsive policymaking – one rooted in dialogue, partnership and a collective commitment to advancing women’s leadership and well-being in Brunei Darussalam.
