13.03.26 His Majesty graces opening of 22nd LegCo session

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to grace the State Opening of the First Meeting of the 22nd Session of the Legislative Council (LegCo) at the Dewan Majlis Building, Jalan Dewan Majlis yesterday.

Also gracing the ceremony were His Majesty’s sons and brothers, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.

Upon arrival at the Legislative Council Building, His Majesty was received by Speaker of the Legislative Council Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib and Clerk to the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council and Clerk to the Legislative Council Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Huraini binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hurairah.

His Majesty’s arrival at the Dewan Persidangan was accompanied by the procession bringing in the Ceremonial Maze of the Legislative Council. His Majesty then consented to officiate the ceremony by delivering a titah, marking the commencement of the First Meeting of the 22nd Session of the LegCo.

Prior to the official opening ceremony, the 22nd LegCo session had convened to review and confirm the journal (minutes) of the 21st Session of the LegCo, which sat for 19 days last year.

The council was then adjourned to allow for His Majesty’s titah and the official opening ceremony.

State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned recited Doa Selamat.

The 22nd session of the LegCo will debate and approve the Supply Bill 2026-2027.

The first meeting was adjourned yesterday morning and will convene today at 9.30am.
