28.10.22 - LegCo Speaker attends APPF in Bangkok

Twenty Parliaments from countries in the Asia-Pacific region, an observer country and three invited organisations of the host country attended the 30th Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF30) annual meeting themed ‘Parliaments and the Post – COVID-19 Sustainable Development’ in Bangkok, Thailand.

Brunei Darussalam was led by the Speaker of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib.

“Brunei fully supports the promotion of digitisation opportunities in the economic and trade sectors in the current era of scientific and technological advancement,” said Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman at the meeting.

He also said that early prevention of infectious and non-infectious diseases is also one of the main focusses in ensuring the healthcare is at a high level, in line with the National Health Strategic Plan 2019-2023.

Accompanying the LegCo Speaker was the Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council and Clerk to LegCo Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Judin bin Haji Asar.

The meeting discussed issues related to post-pandemic COVID-19, rebuilding various economic, political, social and general health sectors.

Eleven resolutions were passed during the meeting and three have been carried over to the next meeting. The meeting also approved a joint communique signed by the heads of representatives of APPF members.

The next APPF meeting will be held in the Philippines in 2023.​
