​​His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, officially opened the first session of the 21st Legislative Council (LegCo) earlier Wednesday at the Legislative Council Hall Building.

Accompanied by Speaker of the Legislative Council Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, His Majesty’s arrival marked the commencement of the session. Also present during the ceremony were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.

Following the opening ceremony, His Majesty delivered a titah, signaling the official start of the first meeting of the 21st Legislative Council session. Prior to this event, the council had convened to review and confirm the minutes from the first meeting of the 20th LegCo, which had met for 18 days in the previous year.

The session was then adjourned to allow for the Royal Address and formal opening. The Legislative Council proceedings will continue Thursday morning with the “Usul Menjunjung Kasih,” or motion of thanks to His Majesty for gracing the opening ceremony and delivering a titah. ​
