The Department of Councils of State yesterday held a thanksgiving ceremony in conjunction with the 79th birthday of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

The event took place at the surau of the Legislative Council (LegCo) building in the capital.

Present as the guest of honour was Speaker of the Legislative Council Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib.

Clerk to the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council and Clerk to the Legislative Council Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Huraini binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hurairah as well as members of the LegCo were also in attendance.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Yaassin and a special prayer in conjunction with His Majesty’s 79th birthday, led by District Monitoring Officer for Brunei-Muara Zone 1 Saufi bin Haji Suhaini. This was followed by a congregational Asar prayer.

The event was held to express gratitude for His Majesty’s wise and benevolent leadership, and to pray for His Majesty’s continued health, longevity, and steadfast reign. Prayers were also offered for divine guidance, blessings, and protection for His Majesty and members of the royal family. ​
